Setting the clock back. Who came up with that idea? Oh yea, Benjamin Franklin. Wouldn't it be great to have someone around like Benjamin Franklin to say what needs said, and create the perspective and context that somehow reaches back to his days and beyond where we find ourselves nowadays.
"Be careful not to set our country back 50 years by your vote on Tuesday!"
You mean like set us back 50 years in terms of paying back the $20,000,000,000,000 debt that the baby boomers have borrowed with us as guarantors?
Or were you more saying that somehow individual or women's rights were in some danger if people weren't careful for who they voted for? Whatever your special interest, your ego interest, your selfish interest, someone is out there appealing to it. Cast your vote for yourself! Vote for you! Step right up! Cast your ballot for personal benefits!
Hey being a good citizen is all about voting for your own short term self interest right?
I mean except for in a republic, like the one where only land owning white men could vote in, the one that established that "all were created equal", the narrow voting citizenry of the republic that instituted the framework for everyone's rights AGAINST THEIR OWN SHORT TERM SELF INTERESTS.
That republic it would seem, has become a popular democracy as a result, where the now enabled masses and populations show up to vote their own selfish short term interests and vote themselves more benefits someone else pays for.
How many years do you figure it will take before we can set ourselves back 238 years or so? I'm guessing we have as long to wait before our current citizens become like our original citizens as we have since our founding.
